Research Interests
José Matos is a postdoctoral researcher in the $\left\lvert\chi\right\rangle$real (Quantum Information and Real-time evolution in QFT) Emmy Noether research group at Bielefeld University.
José’s research uses lattice Monte Carlo simulations to study non-perturbative quantum field theory, with a particular focus on critical phenomena and their interplay with analytical approaches such as the conformal bootstrap, effective string theory and the large charge expansion.
José’s broader research interests include:
- Lattice gauge theory and phase transitions in higher-dimensional gauge theories.
- Specialized Monte Carlo methods, e.g. for symmetry-twisted partition functions.
- Effective string theory of confining strings and domain walls, notably in the 3D Ising model.
- Numerical tests of the large charge expansion and the conformal bootstrap.
- Machine learning for high-energy physics.
